Greetings from We Care, Inc. - 09/07/11

Be kind to others
Today let’s talk about something optimistic!  Change for me, huh!

I was just thinking of all the good this community does for people.  So many helped me when I had the House of Ruth, trusted me on blind faith.  I have yet to meet some of them and we never had to want for anything although all the money we got was from volunteers and what we made at the thrift store.

Regardless of what people say, there are many willing to help if they know the need.  One way to find out the need is to look around us.  They are there if we just take the time to find them.  I know several people right now that a card or letter would make their whole day, pick them up out of their loneliness for just a little while.

When we hear of a need we don’t need to quickly think, “Well, somebody will do it.”  Sometimes somebody does and sometimes somebody doesn’t.

The book, “Here I Am Lord, Send Somebody Else,” title says it all.

Going to church several times a week does not a Christian make. Christians delight in doing the Lord’s work.  They don’t make excuses when called on.  We are all busy but we need to take time to serve Him a few minutes a day.  We have the power to make someone else’s life better if only for a little while at a time.  But that little while may be the only kindness they realize all that day.  Take a good look around you, at work, at school, at church.  They are there and the Lord will point them out if you will take the time to let Him.

When you are kind to someone, two people are blessed.  Try it.  Feel it.  Do it.  When you begin to do this your life will change.  You will begin to feel joy again.  No matter how low we get we can find someone who is having a harder time than we are.  That is not just an old saying, “you can look around and find somebody is worse off than you are.”  It is the living truth and there is always something we can do for them.  A smile, an arm around the shoulder, a friendly greeting, none of them cost a thing but the rewards are great.  Try it.

Ps: I will be giving my testimony at Grant Celebrate Recovery at First Baptist Church on Monday night, September 12.  Their meeting begins at 5:30 with a free meal.
