While recently working at a tornado distribution center I met a young man who looked to be about eight years old.  His head had a huge bandage surrounding it, both eyes were black and his face was swollen very badly.  He had the saddest eyes I ever saw.  I asked him what he lost in the storm that he missed most and I wrote it down.  Will you help me put a little joy in the life of this precious child?

Even in his circumstances this child was neat and clean, very shy and precious.  They seemed to have lost everything.  He was from Bridgeport and his grandmother lives in Woodville.  I will be out-of-town for up to two weeks but I will still get your e-mail.   I don’t have the family’s permission to publish their phone numbers but I will give them to you if you will get in touch with me.  If you want to talk to me about it, the Clarion can give you my cell number.

If you want a real blessing take it to him yourself. If this won’t cause you to feel the Spirit nothing will.  We need those “hands-on” experiences to keep us humble.

Many of our children and grandchildren have toys they have outgrown or have grown tired of.  These are some of the things he lost:

Nintendo ds; Pokemon games and toys; Dragon Ball Z games and toys; Playstation 2 and X Box.  You cannot buy Playstation 2 any more but maybe you have one or could find some of these things at local thrift stores or maybe one of the pawn shops has one they would donate.

Folks, please do not donate anything you wouldn’t give your own child as a gift. Do not send things that are dirty, torn, won’t work. Think of the disappointment if this child received a Nintendo that doesn’t work.

We threw away many dirty and torn pieces of clothing that would not make a good rag.  Donating unusable things just causes more work for volunteers.  You wouldn’t want to stand there and hand them a stained tee shirt or dirty underwear when they have lost everything they had.  

His grandmother said he needed shirts that button up the front as he can’t pull them over his head.  I tried in vain to find button up shirts for him.  I finally found some like-new pullover tee shirts in his size and suggested the grandmother cut a “V” in front or simply slit it part-way down the front till we can find him some more.

This child’s name is Blake and he wears size 16/18 shirts and 16 husky pants.  I’m sure he could also use socks and underwear.  You might want to write him, as well as his grandmother, a note along with your gift.  I can get you an address.
